about me
Meet DARA!
I learned to sing before I could talk, and often sang myself to sleep as a little girl - music has always been my greatest passion and throughout my life I have executed various level singing - be it in choir, in the studio, in church, at vocal academy or teaching students. I was adopted from India at a very early age and grateful that I came to a musical house who always encouraged me to believe in myself and follow my (musical) heart.
My artist name DARA originates from my Indian surname that I had before I was adopted to Sweden and symbolises the duality in me.

Singing has always been my way of expressing the things that don’t quite fit into words. I grew up in Sweden, and music was part of my life from an early age. I attended public music school as a child, singing, playing instruments, and discovering that music was the place where I felt most at ease. It wasn’t something dramatic — it was simply part of everyday life, shaping me quietly and steadily.
I wrote my first song when I was 15 — a simple, melancholic pop melody that helped me process feelings I didn’t yet have the language for. Since then, songwriting has been my anchor. Over the years, I’ve taken several songwriting courses to deepen my craft and explore different creative approaches. My writing has developed into a blend of melancholic pop, jazzy harmonies, and intimate storytelling, often created at the piano, where most of my ideas begin. The piano has always been a calm and reliable place for me — where emotions and melodies meet naturally.
I’ve released two albums of original music, with a third on the way. My songs have brought me onto various stages, performing with both pianists and full bands — from quiet acoustic settings to more dynamic, layered productions, national and international settings. Every song reflects a moment in time and a piece of who I was when I wrote it.

To better navigate the practical side of being an artist, I studied music management, gaining a clearer understanding of how the industry works. I also completed a production and mixing course in Logic, which gave me a solid grasp of basic studio techniques and the technical side of bringing songs to life.
A defining chapter in my development was studying at the Complete Vocal Institute (CVI) in Copenhagen. I had the privilege of being taught directly by Catherine Sadolin, CVI’s founder and one of the leading figures in modern vocal technique. Her knowledge and approach gave me a deep understanding of how the voice works — physically, emotionally, and creatively. The education taught me precision, healthy technique, and true vocal freedom while strengthening my confidence and my curiosity.

During my time at CVI, I also discovered gospel. One of my teachers, Claes Wegener, introduced me to the world of gospel singing — and that connection eventually led me to join Conquerors Gospel Choir, one of the best gospel choirs in Denmark. I became a member before graduating from CVI, and singing under Claes’s direction quickly became an important part of my musical life. His musical leadership, energy, and clarity make every rehearsal both inspiring and demanding in the best way. I also have the joy of performing solos in the choir, something that challenges and inspires me in equal measure.
One of my greatest memories from this period was my CVI graduation concert at Hotel Cecil, where the entire Conquerors Gospel Choir stood on stage with me. Sharing that moment with the choir — already my musical family by then — made the experience especially meaningful.
I love singing under the direction of our fantastic choir leader Claes Wegener, whose dedication, musicality, and energy make every rehearsal and performance meaningful. Gospel has taught me to express joy, strength, and vulnerability in equal measure — and those qualities continue to shape both my singing and my songwriting.

Now, as a vocalist, songwriter, recording artist, choir member, and vocal coach, I continue to grow through every performance, every collaboration, and every student I teach. Whether I’m on stage, in the studio, or guiding a singer through their own vocal development, my goal is the same: to create musical experiences that feel real, grounded, and heartfelt.
Music is more than something I do — it’s how I connect, communicate, and make sense of the world.
And I’m grateful every day to share that journey with others.
Thanks for visiting my page!
Love, DARA

About Me
I went to public music school between grade 4-9 and learnt the basics of music - singing and playing instruments and there took a deeper interested in playing piano. I wrote my first song at the age of 15 and from there on I have worked creatively with music in one way or another during most of my life. I have sang in various choirs and always loved the togetherness and the awesome feeling being in sync with fellow choir buddies, currently I sing in a professional gospel choir. I love to teach singing and are proud to help develop students to the next level. I am also extremely happy to be able to work with companies and bands on a professional level delivering tailor-made services.
